CHANTAL AKERMAN TRIBUTE SCREENINGS
From the East (D’Est)
April 23, 2016
Dir. Chantal Akerman, 1993, 110 mins. 16mm. Chantal Akerman (1950-2015) was one of the greatest filmmakers of her time, with an unparalleled body of work that placed personal exploration within the context of modern history, in films, video pieces, installations, and writing that was rich with formal innovation. As part of a citywide series of screenings in her honor, MoMI presents From the East. With contemplative long tracking shots, Akerman retraces a journey from the end of summer to deepest winter, from East Germany, across Poland and the Baltics, to Moscow, shortly after the collapse of the Soviet bloc.
