Northwest Passages: The Films of Kelly Reichardt
February 29March 1, 2020The films of Kelly Reichardt come on like ballads for the lost and lonely souls of a failing nation, plaintive odes to the 99% percent. With a surpassingly sensitive gaze, they scan landscapes, both within and without, finding a terse poetry in the taciturn faces and situations of people who, for one reason or another, have been relegated to the margins of society--from aging hipsters in Old Joy to pioneer settlers in Meek's Cutoff to radical environmentalists in Night Moves. On the occasion of the release of her most recent film First Cow, a tale of frontier hustlers trying to outsmart the bullies of American history, the Museum presents Reichardt's collected features, from her road movie debut River of Grass to the portmanteau triumph Certain Women.
First Cow, an A24 release, opens March 6, 2020.
