The Nutty Professor
IB Technicolor 35mm print from the Academy Film Archive
Dir. Jerry Lewis. 1963, 107 mins. 35mm. With Jerry Lewis, Stella Stevens, Del Moore. Lewis’s directorial masterpiece is a variation on the Jekyll and Hyde theme, with Lewis playing the meek science teacher Julius Kelp, whose potion turns him into the irresistible lounge singer Buddy Love. Dave Kehr has described it as “one of the most intense investigations of self ever put on film, a technically impeccable work of inspired megalomania.”
