Fig Leaves
Live music by Donald Sosin
Dir. Howard Hawks. 1926, 70 mins., 35mm print from The Museum of Modern Art. With George O'Brien, Olive Borden. Adam, a plumber, is happily married to Eve, a wardrobe-obsessed housewife, until she meets a supercilious fashion designer and becomes a fashion model by day, knowing that her husband would disapprove. Adam and Eve are transplanted to modern New York in Hawks’s earliest existing silent film, a bold gender comedy that ends with a lavish fashion show.
