Dir. Michelangelo Antonioni. 1960, 143 mins. 35mm. With Gabriele Ferzetti, Monica Vitti, Lea Massari. A young woman disappears during a boating trip on the Mediterranean, an occurrence which has a surprising effect on her husband and best friend. Antonioni’s international breakthrough was this epochal art-film event that broke all the rules of narrative cinema and all but invented a new modern movie grammar. The film was recently restored and is presented by Janus Films.
