Land of the Pharaohs
Dir. Howard Hawks. 1955, 105 mins. 35mm. With Joan Collins, Jack Hawkins. A captured architect designs an ingenious plan to insure the impregnability of the tomb of a megalomaniacal Pharaoh, obsessed with the security of his next life. As a conniving Cyprian hellcat, Collins steals Hawks’s Great Pyramid saga, which literally had a cast of thousands and was one of Hollywood's largest-scale, ancient world epics, in the spirit of The Robe, The Ten Commandments, and Ben-Hur.
