Dir. Jean-Luc Godard. 1965, 99 mins. Restored DCP. With Eddie Constantine, Anna Karina, Akim Tamiroff. Sci-fi as only Godard could envision it. In this eccentric, wildly unconventional bit of futuristic pulp fiction, Lemmy Caution (Constantine), a low-rent Sam Spade, is tasked with killing an inventor whose computer, Alpha 60, holds a totalitarian society in its thrall. Love and art are at stake in Godard's film, a surreal yet humane work of low-budget fantasy.
