Part of Ways to Freedom: Polish Film and the Rise of Democracy
Saturday, November 15, 2014, 4:15 p.m.

Introduced by Andrzej Krakowski, City University of New York

Dir. Wojciech Marczewski. 1990, 92 mins. DCP. With Michal Bajor, Artur Barcis. Evoking The Purple Rose of Cairo, this highly original film is about a screening of a new movie in which the characters rebel, refusing to play mindless roles. Instead, they engage with the audience, and authorities don’t know how to handle the situation.

Andrzej Krakowski is a filmmaker (Triumph of the Spirit, Eminent Domain) who studied at the Lodz Film School and professor of Media Communication Arts at CUNY.
