SCREENING
The Girl Can't Help It
Dir. Frank Tashlin. 1956, 99 mins. Restored DCP. With Tom Ewell, Jayne Mansfield, Edmond O’Brien. Frank Tashlin gives Jayne Mansfield the big-screen treatment, framing her in glorious Technicolor CinemaScope in this tale of a not-too-terribly tuneful nightclub-singing gangster’s moll who is secretly happier keeping house with her publicist. Featuring cameos from Little Richard, Eddie Cochran, and Gene Vincent performing the title track, “Be-Bop-A-Lula,” and plenty more in deliriously staged productions.
