Kundo: Age of the Rampant
Part of Fist and Sword
Dir. Yoon Jong-bin. 2014, 137 mins. DCP. With Ha Jung-woo, Kang Dong-won, Lee Kyoung-young. A fierce combination of kimchi epic and spaghetti western, Kundo is a soaring ride through the twilight days of the Joseon Dynasty. In 1859, a powerful gang of bandits, or “Kundo,” decides to stand up against the tyranny of the wealthy and fight for the poor and oppressed. When the honorable thieves accept Dolmuchi—a cleaver-wielding butcher with a personal desire for vengeance—into their ranks, their mission of righteous retribution takes a dramatic turn.
