SCREENING
The Long Gray Line

Part of The Essential John Ford
Saturday, July 18, 2015, 1:30 p.m.

Dir. John Ford. 1955, 138 mins. Archival 35mm print. With Tyrone Power, Maureen O’Hara. Ford’s Technicolor CinemaScope epic surveys fifty years in the life of West Point, through the invention of the football passing game and two World Wars, as seen through the
life of Marty Maher (Tyrone Power), an Irish-born physical education instructor. In the
film’s marvelous Christmas scene, the director’s ideas of duty and community coalesce movingly.
