Stretch and Bobbito: Radio That Changed Lives
Friday, February 12, 2016, 7:30 p.m.
With Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Garcia in person
Dir. Bobbito Garcia. 2015, 98 mins. Digital projection. From 1990 until 1998, WKCR’s The Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show (named “The Best Hip Hop Radio Show Of All-Time” by The Source magazine) introduced listeners to seminal artists like Nas, The Notorious B.I.G., Wu-Tang Clan, Jay Z, Big Pun, and more before they were big. This wildly entertaining, behind-the-scenes documentary mixes archival footage and interviews with artists like Jay Z, Common, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Eminem, and others to tell the untold story of how two friends with an offbeat sense of humor and a shared love of music became “an essential part of hip-hop history” (The New York Times).
