Caucus and NomiNation
Saturday, July 16, 2016, 4:15 p.m.
With director AJ Schnack and producer/cinematographer Nathan Truesdell in person
Dir. AJ Schnack. 2013/2016, 135 mins. Digital projection. In intimate, sometimes emotional, and frequently hilarious detail, Caucus chronicles the buildup to the 2012 Iowa Caucus, as eight Republican candidates fight to become their party’s standard-bearer and take on President Barack Obama. The first step in the process involves navigating state fairs, town hall meetings, and agitated questions from an increasingly contentious GOP base, and shapes into a compelling and unpredictable underdog narrative between eventual nominee Mitt Romney and comer Rick Santorum. Similarly, the docuseries NomiNation charts the 2016 presidential-primary process, all the way from the early contests in Iowa and New Hampshire to the emergence of each party’s presumptive nominees. Never seen in theaters and still in-progress, this series—as well as this special screening—allow viewers to witness the American political process as it unfolds.
