Part of Meltdown: Nuclear Fears on Film
Saturday, September 10, 2016, 7:00 p.m.

Dir. James Bridges. 1979, 122 mins. 35mm. With Jack Lemmon, Jane Fonda, Michael Douglas. In addition to nuclear war, the possibility of meltdowns at nuclear power plants has been a cause for global concern. A modern nightmare nearly becomes reality in this tension-filled story about an ambitious TV reporter covering a story on energy sources who is present at the nuclear plant when a startling accident occurs. Coincidentally, less than two weeks after the movie opened, the Three Mile Island nuclear plant in Pennsylvania had a real accident, and the movie instantly became a prophetic and terrifying docu-drama.
