Thursday, October 13, 2016, 7:30 p.m.

Journey Through Smyrna (Dir. Chrysovalantis Stamelos, 2016, 77 mins. DCP.)
Two cultures. One music. One journey. Greek and Turkish musicians form the group NeaBanda, determined to perform the soulful songs of Smyrna on the streets and quay of today’s Izmir. This enthralling new documentary records the emotional journey that brings the original music of Asia Minor back to its homeland. Preceded by The Second Chance (I Defteri Efkairia) (Dir. Menelaos Karamangioli, 2016, 63 mins. DCP. U.S. premiere.). In this inspiring documentary, Rokas Balbieris, a young Lithuanian immigrant jailed in Greece for drug trafficking, tries to turn his life around by studying at the Avlona Prison High School in preparation for the national university entrance exam.
