In this vibrant feminist drama, three women living in a dusty rural village struggle to assert their independence and sexuality. They are a young widow trying to arrange a marriage for her son, a friend of hers who is beaten regularly by her husband, and a carnival entertainer who performs erotic dances nightly for the local men. According to Alissa Wilkinson at rogerebert.com, the film is “vibrantly alive, full of color and light and movement and music.”
