Screening
Jurassic Park
Dir. Steven Spielberg. 1993, 127 mins. 35mm. With Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum. Upon its release, Jurassic Park became the highest-grossing movie of all time; it was also the first major film to feature real people in convincing interaction with computer-generated imagery. Its dinosaurs were designed by special effects legend Stan Winston, and animated through a digital compositing process by Dennis Muren and his team at Industrial Light & Magic. The film brought dinosaurs back to life even as it presaged the extinction of film as we knew it.
