SPECIAL PROGRAM: JUST ANNOUNCED
An Evening with Frank Oz
Museum of the Moving Image – Redstone Theater
In Celebration of Jim Henson’s Birthday
Frank Oz was Jim Henson’s main creative partner. Oz joined the Muppets in 1963 when he was 19 years old. His first assignment was to work the right hand of the beloved Rowlf the Dog performed by Jim Henson. He was Miss Piggy to Henson’s Kermit, Bert to Henson’s Ernie, and he performed other immortal characters including Grover, Cookie Monster, Animal, and Sam the Eagle. He co-directed The Dark Crystal with Jim Henson, and then directed The Muppets Take Manhattan, en route to a successful directorial career on his own. He is currently completing the documentary Muppet Guys Talking, a warm inside look at the Muppets through the stories and memories of the key Muppet performers who worked with Jim. In this rare personal appearance on the eve of Jim Henson’s birthday (September 24), Oz will talk about his remarkable and prolific collaboration with Henson, in a conversation with clips moderated by Victoria Labalme, who conceived Muppet Guys Talking and produced it with Leslie Converse and Oz. The event will offer a unique and personal perspective on one of the great creative partnerships in twentieth-century American popular culture.
