Happiness
Saturday, September 22, 2018, 3:00 p.m.
Museum of the Moving Image - Redstone Theater
Introduced by producer Christine Vachon
Dir. Todd Solondz. 1998, 134 mins. 35mm print from the UCLA Film and TV Archive. With Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jane Adams, Jon Lovitz, Dylan Baker. Happiness is a dark ensemble comedy centered on the secret lives of three New Jersey sisters, their families, and their neighbors, anchored by one of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s greatest performances. The film brings tenderness and humor to its depiction of the taboo and the frustrated desires of its cast of alienated characters; the seemingly happy marriage that implodes, the self-doubting poet and the neighbor who pines for her, the failed folk singer and her botched romance.
