Written by Wenders and novelist Peter Handke, and shot in both gorgeous black-and-white and color by Henri Alekan, Wings of Desire is a modern classic that manages to be both fearlessly literate and nakedly emotional, while inchoately anticipating the fall of the Berlin wall two years later—and provided Ganz with his greatest role.
