DESCRIPTION:\n	QWFF Spirit of Queens honoree David Schwartz hosts In the So
up with director Alexandre Rockwell in person \n	\n	\n	\n	Welcome remarks
by Carl Goodman\, MoMI Executive Director\, and Sandra Schulberg\, Executi
ve Director of IndieCollect \n	\n	\n	Presented as part of the 9th Annual Q
ueens World Film Festival \n	\n	\n	Dir. Alexandre Rockwell. 1992\, 95 mins
. New restoration on DCP. With Steve Buscemi\, Seymour Cassel\, Jennifer B
eals\, Stanley Tucci\, Carol Kane\, Jim Jarmusch. This endearing\, grungy
indie comedy about the misadventures of hapless would-be filmmaker Adolpho
Rollo perfectly captures a seedy New York just before the onset of Giulia
ni-era gentrification. Buscemi is at his nebbishy best\, though the film i
s stolen by Seymour Cassel\, as a shameless but charismatic con man who pr
omises to produce Rollo’s movie. In the Soup has the vitality\, humor\, wa
rmth\, and cinematic playfulness that characterize the work of the great a
nd under-appreciated filmmaker Alexandre Rockwell. This 25th anniversary r
estoration was made possible by IndieCollect\, Factory 25\, and a Kickstar
ter campaign. \n	\n	\n In the Soup won the Grand Jury Prize at the 1992 S
undance Film Festival and premiered to critical acclaim\, receiving rave r
eviews in The New York Times\, Rolling Stone\, and Newsweek. However\, in
2014\, independent film distributor Matt Grady learned that the film was b
adly damaged and in danger of disappearing. In 2017\, Grady launched a Kic
kstarter campaign to restore the damaged print and host a screening of In
the Soup to mark the film's 25th anniversary. With the help of nearly 800
backers\, the restoration was made possible by IndieCollect and Factory 25
. \n	\n	\n	David Schwartz is being honored by the Queens World Film Festiv
al for his 33-year tenure at Museum of the Moving Image. As Chief Curator\
, Schwartz supervised more than 10\,000 film screenings\, many with person
al appearances\, and played a key role in numerous exhibitions and online
projects. In 2006\, he won a Film Heritage Award from the National Society
of Film Critics for organizing the first complete Jacques Rivette retrosp
ective in the United States. This January\, the New York Film Critics Circ
le honored him with a Special Award recognizing his work at the Museum. \n
