DESCRIPTION:\n	Presented by The Voice of a Woman in association with Museum
of the Moving Image \n\n\n	Screening of America followed by a live video
discussion with Garrett Bradley and Voice of a Woman Founder Maureen A. Br
yan \n\n\n	With her revelatory new short film America (2019\, 30 mins. Dig
ital projection)\, Garrett Bradley does nothing less than construct a joyo
us alternative history of African-American representation on screen. The V
oice of a Woman Festival presents Bradley’s stunning vision offering a uni
que prism through which to consider the history—and future—of the construc
tion of Blackness in American cinema. Following a screening of the film\,
Bradley will participate in a live video conversation with Voice of a Woma
 n Founder Maureen A. Bryan. \n\n\n	About Garrett Bradley: \n\n\n	Garrett B
radley was raised in New York City. \n\n\n	She works across narrative\, do
cumentary\, and experimental modes of filmmaking to address themes such as
  race\, class\, familial relationships\, social justice\, southern culture
\, and the history of film in the United States. Her collaborative and res
earch-based approach to filmmaking is often inspired by the real-life stor
ies of her subjects. For Bradley\, this research takes multiple forms—deep
dives into historical archives\, in-depth dialogues prompted by Craigslis
t want-ads\, or an extended engagement with the communities and individual
s she seeks to represent—and results in works that combine both scripted a
nd improvisatory scenes. Bradley’s films explore the space between fact an
d fiction\, embracing modes of working and of representing history that bl
ur the boundaries between traditional notions of narrative and documentary
cinema. Her rigorous explorations of the social\, economic\, and racial p
olitics of everyday life—its joys\, pleasures\, and pains—are lyrically an
d intimately rendered on screen. \n\n\n	Bradley has received numerous priz
es which include the 2019 Prix de Rome\, and the 2017 Sundance Jury Prize
for the short film Alone\, which was released by The New York Times OpDocs
and became an Oscar contender for short nonfiction filmmaking\, included
in the Academy shortlist. Bradley's work can be seen across a variety of s
paces including her second unit directing work on Ava DuVernay's When They
See Us&nbsp\;and the 2019 Whitney Biennial which closed this past Septemb
 er. \n\n\n	Tickets: $15 ($11 seniors and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) /
free for children under 3 and Museum members at the Film Lover and Kids P
remium levels and above). Order tickets online.&nbsp\;(Members may contact
