DESCRIPTION:\n	With introduction by guest curator Jason Kohn \n	\n\n\n	\n\n
Dirs. Bruce Nyznik\, Lawrence Schiller. 1975\, 86 mins. Archival 35mm prin
t preserved by the Academy Film Archive. Starting from 27\,000 feet above
sea level\, alpinist Yuichiro Miura attempts to descend\, by skis and para
chute\, the world’s tallest mountain. Inspired by a half-joking remark to
 Sir Edmund Hillary\, Canadian filmmaker F.R. Crawley’s Oscar-winning produ
ction follows the preparation and final execution of Miura’s death-invitin
g feat via a ravishingly immersive widescreen approach courtesy of D.P. Mi
tsuji Kanau. A matter of fact voiceover now and then grounds the proceedin
gs in the presentational conventions of its era\, but the hypnotic imagery
lifts things to giddily entrancing heights\, enlisting the audience in Mi
 ura’s own obsessed imaginings.\n\n	&nbsp\; \n	\n Tickets: $15 ($11 senior
s and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / free for children under 3 and Muse
um members at the Film Lover and Kids Premium levels and above). Order tic
