DESCRIPTION:Dir. Ra'anan Alexandrowicz. U.S./Israel. 2020\, 73 mins. DCP. W
hat are we actually seeing when we look at images? To what degree do we be
lieve our eyes\, and what extrasensorial factors define our doubts and inv
estments in what is visible? Minimalist in approach yet far-reaching in it
s application and consequence\, The Viewing Booth triangulates an on-scree
n director\, an on-screen viewer\, and the viewer in the audience\, all re
ckoning with disputed images. In a lab-like editing suite\, director Alexa
ndrowicz invites a series of viewers to watch and comment upon videos port
raying life in the occupied West Bank—some generated by Palestinian citize
ns\, others by the Israeli government—before fixing on Maia\, a young Jewi
sh American woman whose responses prove compelling\, thoughtful\, varied\,
and disconcerting enough to warrant a repeat visit. Throughout\, Alexandr
owicz walks a razor-thin line of instigation and openness to his own proce
ss\, allowing viewers to wrestle and identify with the issues that surface
\, echoing a worldwide media crisis in which measures of truth have been u
 tterly destabilized.\n\n\nTickets: $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 yout
h (ages 3–17) / discounted for MoMI members ($7–$11). Order tickets. Pleas
e pick up tickets at the Museum's admissions desk upon arrival. All seatin
g is general admission. Review safety protocols before your visit.\n
